This image, taken by legendary rock & roll photographer Robert M. Knight, shows Led Zeppelin on the tarmac at the Honolulu Airport, cradling the master tapes to Led Zeppelin II. This image, originally in black & white, was hand-painted by Knight with marshall oil to achieve a more colorful effect. According to Knight, Jimmy Page’s girlfriend originally painted over the image, but then Knight repainted it in order to claim the image as his own. Knight was known for his ability to establish close connections with musicians before they achieved widespread popularity, and Led Zeppelin was no exception. This image shows the band in their early days on their first American tour, and Knight would go on to capture the band both on stage and off for the years that followed.
